Danese is pleased to announce an exhibition of new prints by Richard Serra,
presented in cooperation with Gemini G.E.L. at Joni Moisant Weyl, New York,
opening June 28 and continuing through August 30.
The etchings, each measuring 16 x 18 inches, were generated from drawings
of two torqued spirals, Left/Right and In/Out/Left/Right, which Serra created
for the 2001 Venice Biennale. From a lift above these monumental steel sculptures,
Serra viewed their elevations and radii from different angles and recorded
his observations as notebook studies. These were later converted into this
group of eighteen etchings, which echo the curvilinear form and kinetic
energy implicit in his sculpture, while retaining the spirit and immediacy
of the original line drawings. |
